Spending Thanksgiving with those intimidating strangers known as your romantic partner’s family? Here’s a few tips:
Have an escape plan. Before you arrive, make a plan with your partner. Have a strategy that includes emergency exits, secret calls for help and time-outs to re-gather your head.
Make sure to check in with each other throughout the visit, stay united, and be supportive. There’s nothing worse than getting stranded away from your mate stuck with people talking politics or something.
And here’s another tip that will stop you from blowing it: Lay off the booze. Alcohol dulls your mind and distorts your senses. It can make you more impulsive or a jerk. Either way, drinking too much is a risk not worth taking.
