St. Louis has some SMART GIRLS!!! Girl Scout Troop 1484 made a visit to the White House yesterday for the White House Science Fair.
Sindhu Bala, Sydney Gralike, Julianna Jones, Reagan Mattison, and Christina Yepez – also known as The Blockheads – met President Barack Obama as they showed off their Eco Bin.
The bin is made of metal, and contains a non-toxic substance which dissolves Styrofoam. Not only did the girls apply for a patent for the Eco Bin, but for the gooey, yet adhesive substance created when the Styrofoam breaks down. They’ve named that substance Eco GIOo.
Not only did the girls meet President Obama, but they also got to take a selfie with Bill Nye The Science Guy!
Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls featured the girls as well.
The troop was the only Girl Scout troop invited to exhibit at the White House Science Fair, and they were also the only students from Missouri. The girls go to Robert H. Sperreng Middle School in the Lindbergh School District. They compete as The Blockheads in FIRST® Robotics, and came up with their invention after being challenged to make a local retirement home more environmentally friendly.
Congrats to our STL smart girls!
