A video of a South Carolina high school valedictorian who ripped up an approved graduation speech in favor of the Lord’s Prayer, has gone viral after it showed up on YouTube a few days ago.
Roy Kostner, valedictorian at Liberty High School in Pickens County S.C. said from the podium that he had submitted and gotten approval of the speech he was to give, but instead decided to give another one.
Kostner then tore the speech in two and began to speak about the people who help get the students where they are today.
‘Those that we look up to, they have helped carve and mold us into the young adults that we are today,’ he began again. ‘I’m so glad that both of my parents led me to the Lord at a young age. And I think most of you will understand when I say…’
Kostner then recited the Lord’s Prayer to the applause of the audience.
Kostner’s decision to say the prayer likely grew from the school district’s rule banning prayers that reference specific religions at school functions.
