Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware suffered one of the nastiest broken legs in sports history in yesterday’s game against Duke.
Yesterday’s Elite Eight game between Louisville and Duke featured one of the most gruesome injuries you’ll ever see in basketball . . . or ANY sport.
Louisville guard Kevin Ware was on defense, jumped to block a shot, landed awkwardly on his leg, and suffered a compound fracture. Yes, that’s when the bone comes THROUGH the skin.
If you haven’t seen it and WANT TO, Here’s the video below. It doesn’t show a close-up, but it’s still pretty nasty. So nasty, that when it happened right in front of Louisville’s bench, every one of his teammates reacted in horror horrified and looked away.
There were also reports that a few of them had to throw up. Even coach Rick Pitino admitted it turned his stomach, saying quote, “I went over and I was going to help him up. And all of a sudden, I saw what it was and literally almost threw up.”
Ware was treated on the court, and kept telling his teammates he’d be okay. Pitino was seen wiping away tears, and said, quote, “I don’t think we could have gathered ourselves if Kevin didn’t keep saying over and over again, ‘Just win the game.'”
At the point, there were six-and-a-half minutes left in the first half, and Louisville was up 21 to 20. They went on to win in a blowout, 85 to 63.
