I’ve often wondered if I worked at some of my favorite places … Coach, Crate & Barrel, Gap … what kind of employee discount would I receive?  If you have been thinking of switching jobs, picking up a part-time job, or just interested in employee discounts at certain stores, check this out:

The best retail employee discounts:

1. American Apparel – 50% off everything and a $200 stipend when you start
2. Best Buy – Wholesale cost of an item, plus 5%
3. J Crew – 50% off five items a month and 30% off anything after that
4. Apple – 25% off computers and either $250 off an iPad or $500 off a Mac, once every three years
5. Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy (All owned by the same company) – Between 30% and 50% off, depending on how much you buy

The worst retail employee discounts:

1. Home Depot – No discount
2. Wal-Mart – 10% off, but not on food, cigarette, or sale items
3. RadioShack – %30 off RadioShack branded items, 10% off everything else
4. Bed, Bath, & Beyond – 20% off, but they send 20% off coupons to everyone in the country
5. Whole Foods – 20% off unless you’re skinny.  If your BMI is low and you don’t smoke, your discount can jump to 30%

One of my favorite places, Gap, is in the best list so that makes me feel good about shopping there.  I like that they take care of their employees!
