This video proves the many dangers of being a MLB home plate umpire.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Torrii Hunter slid into home Wednesday night during a game against the Cleveland Indians, and he accidentally kicked home plate umpire Greg Gibson in the FACE.

Obviously Hunter was in cleats, which cut Gibson above his left eye. He needed five stitches and also suffered a fractured nose, but called it a “freak play” and doesn’t blame Hunter for it.

Sadly, this isn’t actually the first injury Gibson has had this season. He’s the same umpire who took a fastball to the CROTCH back in April.
