Over the weekend, Russell Brand legally became a single man again. Since his divorce from pop superstar Katy Perry, Brand has had only nice things to say about his now ex-wife and the time they spent together.
Brand was scheduled to talk with Howard Stern to promote his new TV show, Brand-X. However, Stern ended up coaxing Brand into talking about his relationship with Perry, and how he feels about her now that everything is said and done.
Brand said that he loved Perry very much, but married life was not what he thought it was going to be. He said after they tied the knot, both of their schedules kept them busy, keeping them apart most of their marriage.
“When we got married, I felt like ‘I’ve just got to, I’ve got to marry her, I just love her so much,” Brand said. “And then while we were married I thought, ‘Ok, this isn’t really working out.’ “
Brand said that he thought his relationship with Perry was a “lovely relationship” and things did not work out for “practical reasons.”
Recently, he has been spotted canoodling with the younger sister of actress Jordana Brewster, Isabella. However, when Stern mentioned Brand’s new lady friend, he tried to give a beat-around-the-bush answer.
“Ah, yes, yes. Some things you read in the newspaper aren’t true. Other things, like the crossword, [are true],” he said. When Stern asked him point-blank if it the rumors were, in fact, not true, Brand said ” No, that’s true, actually.”
He said, at the moment, he’s trying to enjoy the freedom of being a single man.
