It’s not something any musician wants to experience. Colbie Caillat was upstaged by some unwanted guests while at her Pittsburgh tour stop: mayflies.
Currently on tour with Gavin DeGraw and Andy Grammer, Colbie recalled the night’s events.
“I was seriously traumatized. I was performing in Pittsburgh and during my set all of a sudden there were these bugs, they’re called mayflies. They come out I guess one week a year,” she said. “When the lights went up on my lighting rig they all went directly to the light. Thousands of them. Having thousands of them hitting you is scary.”
“They were big dragon flies dive-bombing me on the stage. Part of me was like, ‘Okay everyone has been waiting in the rain I need to tough through this and keep singing.’ But they were sticking to me and hitting my head. I was screaming. I’m not scared of bugs either but to have thousands of them hitting you is scary,” she said.
Despite her fear, Colbie went on to continue the show with a little help from her fans singing along on her first single “Bubbly.”
“I was worried. I was like, Please don’t go in my mouth!’ I don’t know what I would have done,” she said.
So sorry for screaming multiple times into the mic on “Brighter” and “Bubbly”. I ran directly off the stage into the shower after Bubbly.
