This news doesn’t come as a complete shock, but American Idol star Pia Toscano has officially signed a record deal with Interscope Records. Her first single, “This Time,” is scheduled for release next week.

Toscano fans can look for her album to hit shelves later this year, and they can also expect it be be a “big diva-sounding” record. Toscano has been working alongside the same producers and writers responsible for Rihanna‘s hit songs “S&M”, “Rude Boy” and “What’s My Name.”

Toscano was considered one of the top contestants for the Idol title, and sources report that Interscope Records swooped in on her with an offer immediately following her elimination. PopCrush has the full story, and you can watch her final performance on American Idol below…
